Artist Statement (what Beaux71 said about their artwork)
My favorite part of this, is how the colors and strokes of the oil pastels blend together creating a sense of motion, but i do think I could’ve worked harder on the sky and the lighting. My inspiration was 2 things, a small cleaning in my grandparents woods and the way light reflects and warps when it hits flowing water. If I could remake it, I would add more detail, and improve the lighting so you could tell between shade and directly lit spots easier. While creating this I learned about how to make colors without blending, and how to create a sense of motion with oil pastels. I was surprised about how quickly I could make 1 layer, but how long it took to create multiple layers with the oil pastels. To create this artwork I made quick small strokes with the oil pastels, and did this until i had created many layers, I did this with everything from the stream to the grass to the tree.
