About this School Project (CHALK PASTEL CANDY CORN)
6th grade began this project by looking at art by Margaret Morrison. Morrison created realistic paintings of sweets! We discussed how she made her subjects look realistic, focusing on light and shadows. To create a composition to draw, they were given 4 pieces of candy corn to arrange how they liked. We discussed good composition as well as how to take a good photo including cropping. After taking a photo of their arrangement with their iPad, they got to eat their candy corn! Yum! Their photo was used to sketch out their composition, including shadows. Next, they used chalk pastels to add color to their candy corn. They were encouraged to look for light and shadows and use at least 2 shades of each color, which they carefully blended. Lastly, they chose a background color. A dark shade was used to color in the shadow under each piece of candy and a light shade was used to color in the rest. These turned out so wonderfully!
