About this School Project (2nd Gr. Skies and a Wish!)
Second-grade artists looked at sky paintings from artists around the world including paintings by Polish artist Agnieszka Kozien, Afro-Native American artist Richard Mayhew, and German artist Caspar David Friedrich. They compared what they saw in the different paintings and identified how the artists made their skies. Students then chose the colors and values they wanted for their sky and used their watercolor painting skills to create it! After their paintings dried, students used the elements of art to practice drawing dandelions, shooting stars, or four leaf clovers. People may make wishes when they blow on a dandelion or see a shooting star or four leaf clover. Some individuals think when you make a wish and blow on a dandelion the wish is carried to your loved ones. Students identified a wish they have for their community to go along with their wish painting and drawing! Students were working toward the following Ohio Visual Art Standards:
2.1RE Compare works of art using descriptive language.
2.1PE Show perseverance in the creative process.
2.2PE Apply increasing skill in the appropriate use of materials and tools.
2.3PE Produce works that intentionally incorporate the elements of art.
