Artist Statement (what Daniel48401 said about their artwork)
In class, we have been discussing Hispanic artist for Hispanic Heritage Month. An artist we learned about was Luchita Hurtado, a woman born in Venezuela, who was known for her colorful line paintings. Luchita Hurtado's line work was the inspiration for this piece.
To begin this piece, I chose a color scheme/palette that I thought was pretty warm like summer. Then, I colored a different concentric pattern on each fourth of the paper. Next, I cut out stripes of the paper and arranged them in a flip-flop pattern and glued them down. After, this I used washi tape to cover the white spaces between the strips. Lastly, I trimmed the edges to give it a nice and neat finish.
This artwork actually ended up neater than I expected. Honestly, I did not enjoy the process at all. I felt like the markers ran out easily. Also it took a long time to finish the lines. Now what I like about it was that I really like the color scheme I chose. I do think it has too much orange in the final product. If I could go back, I would use a blue washi tape color instead of orange. Overall, I would rate this a 7/10.
