About this School Project (1Be Watercolor Hair Explore!)
First grade students have been exploring qualities of line, painting, and recently viewed works by artist Lorna Simpson (who does amazing collages coupled with gorgeous experimental watercolor hair). Students have been learning about wet-on-wet; wet-on-dry; dry brush, and other watercolor techniques. They loved looking at the images that Lorna Simpson has created, and absolutely loved creating their own beautifully painted hair on their own portraits (or self portraits - they had a choice.). They did this while using their supplies in responsible ways, and while maintaining their studio space. This was followed up with additional work with line, and an introduction to texture, which was used in the background.
I am also photographing images created in the scaffolding class where the children drew a line menu prior to their project.
