About this School Project (5-B Patterned Tree inspired by Carlos Catasse)
CARLOS CATASSE (1944 - 2010) was born in CHILE, though he spent much of his life painting in Ecuador. Catasse’s artwork is characterized by his bright use of color and subtle abstraction of his subject. To create their artwork, students focused on cutting and layering both geometric and organic paper shapes on a
colored background to represent colorful leaves. Next, they used lines and shapes to create patterns on their cutouts. And to finish the assignment, they drew and cut out the silhouette of a tree which is the emphasis of the artwork.
