About this School Project (1st Gr. Skill Builder Shape Collage)
First grade students are focusing on "How We Organize Ourselves" & the art room. They identified why it is important to put art tools and materials back where they go. They showed independence as they gathered and cleaned up materials on their own. They practiced being responsible with collage materials by pointing scissors away from their bodies while cutting and using small amounts of glue on the back of the papers they cut out. The students showed creativity as they figured out how to use shapes they had colored to make a work of art. Students were working toward the following Visual Art Standards: 1.1PE Develop independence during artmaking and 1.2PE Engage with materials and tools to develop artmaking skills.
Ask your student "How were you responsible during art class?" "How did you come up with your creative idea for your collage?" "Did you have more ideas of what you could make with the shapes? If so, what were your other ideas?"
