About this School Project (Explorer)
NCAS: CREATING Anchor Standard #1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work
1.Give each student a piece of white paper.
2. Pass out pencils and erasers, markers and crayons or colored pencils.
3. Instruct students to follow along with you as you draw the body of an explorer on the board.
4.Draw the explorer with the students using the “Explorer Drawing Guide” on the next page. Their explorer can be a self-portrait and doesn’t have to look just like the example.
5. Students can use the “Head Handout” to personalize their drawing with a specific hair or hat style.
6.After drawing the explorer, students can use the “Landscape Source Images” to draw a landscape from observation in the background or draw their own. They can also include other details to help create a sense of space.
7.After the drawing is finished, students can trace their lines with black marker and color with crayons, markers or colored pencils.
