About this School Project (KG Abstract Art Painting)
The Kindergarteners were told they will be learning the “art alphabet” this year. For our first project, we learned that “A” is for artist and “B” is for brush. We learned how to properly care for “Mr. Paintbrush” when we use him during art class! We specifically looked at an abstract painting by Bradley Walker Tomlin titled “Number 2”, which was painted in 1950.
For the abstract colored backgrounds, the students used paintbrushes to add liquid starch onto tissue paper. Once these were dry, students used black paint to add abstract lines on top of their colorful design. They were reminded that abstract art is about how an artist feels and thinks instead of what he or she sees. We played instrumental music and the classes were encouraged to add lines that expressed how they felt while listening.
