About this School Project (6th grade R Classical Greek Vase)
Classical Greek vases offer the opportunity to consider how form and function are related, and how the decorative imagery on Greek vases fit the context of their use. Among about a dozen different shapes, we saw how vases were painted in Black-figure or Red-figure style scenes that match their purpose. Students created a plan for the design of their vase with decorative border motifs to frame an appropriate central scene, and then using red clay, constructed their vase forms and painted the scenes.
