About this School Project (1st Grade - Cherry Blossom Branches)
First graders continued their study of how "Art is Everywhere" in nature by looking at the blossoms on Japanese cherry blossom trees. We analyzed how the petals are in groups of 5 or 6 and the flowers grow all along the branches. Sometimes the branch is so full that it looks like the flowers are growing further from the branches, depending on how long their stems are. We also learned about George Seurat who painted using dots. This form of painting is called pointillism. Using all of this information, students created their own cherry blossom branches. We practiced our paper tearing skills to rip branches, and we practiced using the "dot dot not a lot" technique to arrange and glue the paper strips onto paper in the form of a branch. Finally, students used the eraser end of a pencil to dip and dot their blossoms onto the branches.
