About this School Project (Kinders: Butterfly Symmetry Watercolors (copy))
Our kinder artists learned about symmetry. To make symmetrical butterflies they used black oil pastel on half of their paper to draw half of the butterfly. We talked about lots of different types of shapes we could use for the head, body, wings and antenna. Then they folded the paper in half and transferred their drawing to the other side by pressing down on the oil pastel drawing. The artists then traced over that light copy to create the other side of their butterfly. They completed their artwork with watercolor paint. We did talk about how to keep the symmetry with color as well, and how different types of colors (like warm and cool) would show up better next to each other.
