About this School Project (3rd Scratch Art)
Students learned about additive and subtractive techniques, and how they could be related to concepts discussed in their math units. Students practiced burnishing and blending techniques, using oil pastels, to completely cover their paper with colorful designs. After black paint was layered on top of their colored paper, they practiced subtractive techniques to scratch a design into their final piece. Design work was inspired by Alma Thomas, an artist students learned about that employed bright, abstracted shapes into her large-scale, polychromatic works.
