About this School Project (Claude Monet Inspired Cool Color Lilly Ponds & Warm Color Sunsets)
Kindergarten artists looked at photographs of Claude Monet's home, garden, and pond. They compared the photographs to Monet's paintings. He created an "impression" of what he saw. Students used watercolor paints, oil pastels, tissue paper, construction paper, scissors, and glue to create their own pond.
Students were also inspired by Monet's love for nature to create their own warm color sunset. The students showed their thinking skills as they identified the lines, shapes, and colors they would need to use for various details. The students decided if they wanted their artwork to be two-dimensional or three-dimensional (3D) and demonstrated their art skills as they cut and glued carefully. Students were working toward the following Ohio Visual Art Benchmarks:
-Describe what they see and feel in selected works of art (5RE)
-Explore and experiment with a range of art materials and tools to create and communicate personal meaning (1PR)
-Generate ideas and images for artwork based on observation, memory, imagination and experience. (2PR)
-Reduce objects into basic shapes and lines in relation to the whole image. (4PR)
