About this School Project (2nd Ocean Value Painting)
Students in second grade studied Australia and the Great Barrier Reef. We learned what sea life likes to live on a reef, and heard what they sound like! Drawing from a “worm’s eye view” we drew concentric circles and drew a sea creature from the reef as though we were on the bottom of the ocean looking up towards the surface. Next, we mixed small amounts of blue paint into a big pile of white, creating a tint blue. We repeated adding small amounts of blue, creating different values of blue, to paint each circle a little darker than the last. Mixing blue with black paint created a shade, which we used to paint our sea life with, creating positive and negative space. What would you like to see swim above you if you were on the bottom of the ocean floor?
