About this School Project (2-Worry Dolls)
Second graders watched a video about the legend of the Guatemalan worry doll and its origin. To make our own dolls we folded a rectangular piece of fabric over a small amount of cotton batting and tied yarn around it to create a head and neck. The yarn was then wrapped down the fabric to create a body. After wrapping for a few inches, the two ends of the fabric were divided and the wrapping continued to make two legs. A shorter piece of fabric was wrapped to create the arms and that was tied onto the body. Next, a shirt or dress was tied around the doll. The last step was to add a face and optional hair to the figure. Students were anxious to take these dolls home so they could tell the doll their worries and sleep with it under their pillow so their worries could vanish.
