Artist Statement (what Cara1942 said about their artwork)
I chose myself as my subject, because I wanted to be able to convey the pose as easiest as possible and it wouldn’t be as difficult as finding someone else to use. A lot of artists paint themselves and I wanted to try it to experiment with skin tones, eye colors, etc. I started my painting with a red wash, and then blocked out under layers of the skin in greens and purples, and then, adding more water, I started making my skin tones and blocked those in. I struggled with making the values true to the reference, cleaning the edges of blending and clothing. I enjoyed it and made lots of new discoveries about how to paint skin tones and hands.
