About this School Project (5th Grade Coral Reef Collage)
The 5th grade students created a collage on 12x18 drawing paper. "Collage is a technique of art creation, primarily used in the visual arts, but in music too, by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole". They started by researching tropical fish. They draw several of their different fish and colored them with colored pencils. These were set aside. They watched a video and looked at pictures of coral reefs. They were given a 12x18 piece of paper to draw their coral reef (background). They were instructed to use the whole paper. Finally they cut out their fish drawings from earlier, moved them around their reef drawing to find the best possible spots to place the fish. They carefully cut out their fish and glued them down to create their beautiful collage.
