About this School Project (Monet Water Lily Pad)
Students heard about the life and artwork of French artist, Claude Monet. Monet is known for his impressionism paintings. Students discussed the differences between the way Money painted and the way many artists of his time painted. Monet's paintings are bright, colorful, and you can even see his brushstrokes. Students created their sculpture based Monet's water lily pond paintings. They used a lily pad template to trace and cut out the shape from a slab of clay. They created texture lines in the clay to make the veins. Next they traced a flower shape on a small piece of clay and curled the petals up to make them 3D and make texture in the center for the pollen. They attach the water lily to the lily pad using the score and slip technique to attach it. They used green, yellow, white, and purple or pink glaze to add color to their lily pad sculpture.
