Artist Statement (what Bea149 said about their artwork)
In this project, I decided the positive space to be tropical flowers because the subject worked well with the analogous colors I wanted to use, which were red/violets, and also because I love nature, and it's beauty. While working on this project, I learned a lot about negative/positive space as well as how to create different values when it came to working with watercolors. Although it was hard to identify the shapes from the background sometimes and to not paint on the traced shapes, it was really nice and satisfying painting around the shapes after I traced the flowers onto the paint, and creating the first layer, the lightest value, of watercolor. I also enjoyed taking the border of tape off at the end. When people look at my picture, I want them to feel enlightened, and "bubbly."
About this School Project (MS 2D 8 - Unit 2 - Negative Space Watercolor Paintings)
Students created an easily recognizable shape into a stencil. Using watercolor techniques, they made a three-layered painting using analogous colors and a variety of values.
