About this School Project (5-C Harlem Cityscape inspired by Jacob Lawrence)
This fun, layered cityscape by 5th graders is based on Jacob Lawrence’s colorful and energetic painting This is Harlem. Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) is one of the best know American painters of the 20th Century and became well known during the Harlem Renaissance. Much of Lawrence's work deals with experiences of African American life. His Great Migration series, which depicts Black migration from the South to the North remains some of his best known works. He was inspired by the everyday sights of life in Harlem which is evident in his artwork.
