About this School Project (2nd: Monet Sunflowers)
Students learned about impressionist artist Claude Monet and his love for flowers. We looked at a video of where he lived and his luscious gardens that inspired him to paint. Impressionist artists painted from real life, which meant they had to paint with quick gestural lines to capture the moment. Students mimicked how impressionist artists painted when they painted their backgrounds and sunflowers. Students also learned about form and we added charcoal shadows and white chalk highlights to our vases for a more realistic look. Students created this collage-style artwork and mastered their cutting and gluing skills!
