About this School Project (6-9 Aborigine paintings)
In students study of Australian art, they focused on the longest continuous group of people on the planet: The Aborigines. The Aborigines are best known for their dot paintings that tell the story of the "Dreamtime" through the use of symbols with meanings. Students studied and practiced different symbols and learned from contemporary Aborigine artists in how they arrange symbols into a meaningful composition. To create their art, students arranged symbols to create meaning to their work. They created a wash or underpainting to cover the paper. And then used q-tips ti create dots to add details to their symbols. To complete their pieces, students did an Australian animal scratchboard to add into their piece.
