About this School Project (2 - John James Audubon Animals)
The second graders studied the artwork of John James Audubon, who is famous for drawing scientifically accurate birds. While alive, he discovered more than 25 new species of birds and is whom The Audubon Society is named after. Each student selected an animal fact card with multiple photographs, as well as information about their animal, such as it’s habitat, feeding, etc. The students were asked to include a horizon line in their drawing, as well as a large version of their animal in the foreground, and a smaller version of their animal in the middle or background to show perspective. They worked very hard to show texture and details of both their animal and it’s habitat. Once drawn, they traced over their work with sharpie and colored their animals and foreground with crayons or colored pencil, and painted the background with tempera cakes.
