About this School Project (First grade Paper Weaving and Pattern)
Students began by viewing a weaving in class. They reviewed what they remembered about weaving. Then, students listened to the story "The Goat in the Rug". After, students discussed the story and then began to select colors for a paper weaving. Paper weaving was demonstrated and students helped say over/under to weave. Two colors were selected to make an A/B pattern with painted paper strips. Students discussed their weavings.
We also talked about fiber arts related to quilts. We looked at art by Faith Ringgold and discussed her story quilts. Students added a story to their paper weaving.
