About this School Project (2nd - Sakura Japanese Cherry Blossoms)
We are continuing our unit on Japanese art. We began by creating organic branches and twigs by blowing on black India ink with straws. Next, the students made their backgrounds by choosing either warm or cool colors of tissue paper and applying with water. Once dry, they removed the tissue paper to reveal the stained paper beneath. They used oil pastels to draw a 3-D vase or bowl with water at the bottom, and used their fingers to paint white and pink cherry blossoms on their branches. Finally, they learned how to write their first names in Japanese, and signed their artwork!
