About this School Project (Multicultural)
1st Graders were shown videos of African jewelry and the impact of large necklaces. They were taught how to string beads on yarn and encouraged to demonstrate they understood patterning with colors.
2nd Graders were introduced to Kente (pronounced Ken- tay) cloth that historically originates from Ghana in Africa.
The emphasis was that patterns repeat which supports curriculum objectives.
4th Graders learned how and why hand henna is used in the Indian Culture for celebrations such as weddings. (See also "Scarabs" projects for more about Egyptian Culture.)
5th Graders learned how and why hand Henna is used in the Indian Culture for celebrations such as weddings. They used zentangle patterns to create intricate & contrasting designs.
