About this School Project (2nd: Chinese New Year Dragons)
Students learned about traditions of the Chinese New Year and watched the Dragon Dance. This year is the year of the Tiger and celebrations went from February 1st and ended the 15th with the Lantern Festival. Students drew their own interpretation of a New Year Dragon choosing characteristics and "powers" for their dragons. We used colored pencils to blend colors over our textured dragons filled with patterns and scales. Students learned about the Chalk Pastel rubbing technique for their backgrounds to make the hazy sky effect; instead of coloring with the pastels students took a paper towel and rubbed it over a color of their choice and then rubbed the chalk powder onto their paper.
