About this School Project (3- Cityscapes)
3rd Graders created these mixed media artworks, inspired by the work of artist and author Faith Ringgold. We began the unit by reading Tar Beach and discussing the styles and themes used by the artist. Then students created their own drawings, which were painted with watercolors. As a finishing touch, students added a frame of patterned squares to resemble Faith Ringgold’s story quilts. The squares were cut from donated wallpaper samples, incorporating a recycled material into the artworks.
