About this School Project (1st Gr. Create Your Own Style of Landscape!)
How We Express Ourselves Art Planner Central Idea: Artists’ choice & arrangement of the elements of art create an artistic style.
After viewing Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night, students looked at additional landscapes by Van Gogh, observing differences and similarities in form. Focusing on the key concepts of perspective and causation, students identified how the art made them feel or what they thought of when they looked at it. They also communicated what caused them to think or feel that way. Students also described and reflected on the form and style of Alma Thomas's abstract landscapes. 1st grade artists then had to use their creativity and art knowledge to create their own landscape! They chose what feeling, colors, or details they wanted to include and what art materials would help them express their idea! Ask your student why they chose the colors they did! What do they like best about their style of landscape?
Students were working toward the following Ohio Visual Art Standards:
1.3PE Convey ideas and emotions using the elements of art.(function)
1.3CR Experiment with various elements of art to communicate meaning. (causation)
1.3CO Communicate personal emotions and read emotional content in works of art.(causation and perspective)
