About this School Project (1st Gr. Vincent van Gogh Inspired Starry Night)
Students looked very purposefully at the form of Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night painting. They looked for different lines and shapes he used. Lines and shapes are two of the elements of art, the ingredients that make up every work of art. Students then followed along with Ms. Gosses to use lines, shapes, and varying amounts of space to make their own version of The Starry Night. Students first used watercolor paints, tempera cakes, or drawing materials to add color to their artworks. The following art class, we talked about how artists have different styles. Some painters like their paint to look smooth while others like it to have a thick texture. Artists can use realistic colors or expressive colors. Students learned how to clean their brushes when using liquid tempera so that we can share paints with other artists. They then made their own personal choices for how they wanted to add more paint and which colors they wanted to use!
Ask your student what types of lines they used to create the wind? Why did they choose the colors they did?
Students were working toward the following Ohio Visual Art Standards:
1.1CR Differentiate between personal ideas and the ideas of others when developing artmaking concepts.
1.2PE Engage with materials and tools to develop artmaking skills.
1.3CR Experiment with various elements of art to communicate meaning.
