Artist Statement (what Naomi7164 said about their artwork)
I made two pictures, the bottom one was a simple zoom in of a larger image. The top one is the larger image. In the top one, I drew the larger image, with more focus points. I wanted the bottom picture to be simple, with one main focus point. I decided to keep the pond in the top one because the top one was supposed to be a lot more chaotic, with more things in the foreground, middleground, and background. I used pencils and colored pencils. For the grass, I added a few small lines to short of show the texture of tufts of grass, then I went over it with colored pencils. For the sky, I made a few clouds, then slightly shaded in the sky and shaded in the clouds. For coloring, I went over everything in a light brown color, then for the grass, I went over it in green and a light gray. For the sky, I went over it in a darker gray, then a light blue and a light green. When making it, i started by creating a light sketch in pencil, then when I liked the product, I went over it in a dark pencil. Then, I colored it. I decided to simply go with a pencil and a colored pencil. I liked how the bottom drawing really shows the negative space. I would rate this drawing a 7/10, because I really like it but the top drawing looks messy and rushed.
About this School Project (Tree Drawing)
Students select a photo of a tree and draw from observation paying attention to shape, proportion, and positive and negative space. Students make continual improvements and or multiple drafts during the creative process as in the story of Austin's butterfly, and learn to give specific and kind feedback to peers. Students develop growth mindset strategies and enjoy a reading of "Ish" by Peter Reynolds.
