About this School Project (2nd G Observational Drawings)
The 2nd-grade students were asked to use their developing observational skills to draw a sunflower. They began with white charcoal pencil to create a contour drawing on black construction paper. The directions were to draw only what they could actually see as opposed to what they might imagine or presume to see. The next step was to introduce color using oil pastels and again to put their observational skills to good use.
As an extension, some students created renditions of flower gardens wherein they were asked to visualize using their imagination as a comparative experience to observational drawing.
