About this School Project (1- Cityscapes)
Students began this unit by studying the work of collage artist, Romare Bearden, and discussing the reasons why he chose to create artwork depicting the streets of New York City. Then students designed and created their own cityscape.
First, we layered rectangular pieces of plain paper to make the buildings. Second, we added details with cut pieces of magazines and paper. Finally, students added additional drawn details with oil pastel. Students were encouraged to add details one might find on a real building and use their imaginations to create what they would like to see on a city street.
