Artist Statement (what Judah826 said about their artwork)
I took some inspiration from the Israeli flag. The reason I chose purple as opposed to blue is because purple is a mix of red and blue, blue being the Jewish religion, and red being people that oppose it or renounce it, coming together and having peace.
[How does your design follow the NAVA’s “The Five Principles of Flag Design”?]
It could be drawn from memory by a child
The meaning of my flag is peace between theJews and other religions. My flag represents Jews and the Jewish religion. The design accomplishes this by mixing red, being other religions, and blue, being Jewish people. The 5 stars represent the 5 major religions of the world being Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.
Anything else you want to share about your design or your learning experience?
There is nothing else to say, apart from the fact that it looks like the Polish flag and coincidentally, a lot of Jewish Americans' roots trace back to Poland.
About this School Project (6th Grade R - Vexillology)
Flag design is too often taken for granted, but it is sometimes the only tangible embodiment of abstract ideas like country or state. Which is why the recent abolition of the old Mississippi state flag bearing the Confederate flag in its corner and the adoption of a new flag presents the perfect case study for vexillology - the study of flags. Students learned the 5 principles of good flag design and practiced designing flags using the guidelines from the North American Vexillology Association (NAVA). The finished flags represent issues of social, economic, climate justice and identity groups and were composed digitally using Google Drawing.
