Artist Statement (what Kaylee16291 said about their artwork)
This is a self portrait of from a photo of me at the mall hanging out with my friends. The materials used for this piece were acrylic paint on canvas paper. The size of the work is 12x12 inches. The process used to create this piece started with a layer of paint on the canvas paper. Next, a grid was added on both the canvas and a printed copy of my reference photo. Then, the shapes were traced on the copy and then drawn on the canvas. Lastly, the shapes were painted with black acrylic paint.
About this School Project (High Contrast Self Portraits)
Students will learn highly contrasted portraits through creating their own self-portrait. Students begin studies with understanding each facial element-eyes, ear, nose, mouth, proportions of head, etc. They will practice on bristol board smooth with grid, and sharpie application with subject based on Super Hero/Charlie Chaplain. They will further their understanding of portraiture by creating their self portrait with a photo that is printed using high contrast. Elements-shape, line with principles-contrasts, proportion will be emphasized.
