About this School Project (3rd Grade 'Special People' Portraits)
After exploring the art of portrait artist, Howard Finster, the students created a portrait of their own 'Special Person' using permanent markers and tempera paints. They used their observational skills to create a representational image (applying the rules of facial proportion learned in 2nd Grade) with a background that includes visual symbols representing their Special Person's character or interests.
