Artist Statement (what Ashley32055 said about their artwork)
My masks culture is venetian I chose this because I think these masks have there own unique style. If this mask was real someone would wear my mask to cover the identity of people but in there own way so they aren't showing there face but they can still share there style. I made my mask look like its cultures style because I made it unique and its own style and I made it stand out and added the flower on the side of it. I choose one adinkra symbol the means hope and I liked it because it shows you have hope. I also chose one that means patience I liked its style and how it means patience. I think I did the blending very well.
About this School Project (Cultural Mask- Crayon Batik)
Students picked a culture that uses masks for celebrations, rituals, traditions, and dance. They then designed a mask in that cultures style along with the inclusions of Adinkra Symbols used on cloth in Ghana. Each symbol had a special meaning and a meaning to a student. Color is blended crayon and paper is dyed with Crayon Batik method. Sewn edges with yarn for a fabric/animal hide resemblance.
