About this School Project (3-Native American Glyph Drawing)
In class we connected to the PYP POI unit in their class to inquire about and analyze art of indigenous Native American tribes from Arizona. We looked at their artwork and discussed what we thought was being represented and why and dissected the art for artistic elements used using art vocabulary. We came to assumptions about tribes using a lot of symbols to represent people and ideas, such as people, animals and to tell stories of daily life at that time in history. Students will use a sheet of Native American symbols and images to create a petroglyph story of their own to describe themselves on a drawing of a bowl or vase, a traditional artifact of Native American cultures that they used as a tool in their communities and villages.
