About this School Project (Primary Color Bear Collage)
Students began this lesson with a review of color theory. They reviewed their primary colors and selected two to create their background. Their backgrounds were inspired by the artist Jackson Pollock and his action paintings. Students created their backgrounds with a partner and achieved their “action painting” with the help of some paint covered marbles and a cardboard box lid.

They created their bear’s shirt by through the tinfoil monoprinting technique. Students colored strips of the primary colors with markers, leaving empty space in between each color so they could blend their secondary colors in the middle. Students then pulled a print from their tinfoil!
Finally, students learn about the basics of making a collage to complete this lesson. Using neutral colored construction paper, they learn how to break objects down into to simple shapes to create the “pieces” for their “puzzle”. They learn how to work smarter and not harder by using folding to help create symmetry or create two identical shapes. They also practiced good craftsmanship with their cutting and gluing skills.
