About this School Project (Mayan-Inspired Printmaking Project)
Grade 6 students are challenged to explore oil pastels and learn about the process of printmaking to combine the two media in one Mayan-inspired art project. Creating an oil-pastel frame on a 18" x 12" black sheet is the first step upon reviewing the style and culture of Mayan civilization. Including this primitive style in their creations, students will go on to develop an image to repeat through printmaking as the part of the project featured within the frame. Printmaking terms like: edition, bench hook and brayer are used throughout the learning experience to prepare everyone for their next printmaking project in future art classes.
