About this School Project (Shape Paintings)
Kindergarten and 1st grade students learned about geometric shapes, circle, triangle, square, oval, and rectangle. And then we painted!
This lesson allowed me to assess student knowledge of basic geometric shapes, and to continue to teach painting procedures in the art room.
After painting shapes with their ballerina brush on her tippy-toes, students practiced repeating the shapes by "rainbowing." Rainbowing is when the artist makes repeated lines around the shape, inside and out, using lots of different colors. By repeatedly outlining, the students are getting practice of making those basic shapes. Some students chose to make extra fancy shapes by adding polka dots, broken lines or hash marks.
I could look at these paintings forever. Each student made decisions about where to place the shapes, what colors to use next to each other, and how to address the space between the shapes in a creative way. Gorgeous work, boys and girls!
