About this School Project (4 Silhouettes)
INTRO:
During this project students learned about silhouettes. This is when an object between the viewer and the sun appears black. This occurs during both sunset and sunrise, when the sun is low in the horizon. Students learned that they can be seen in landscapes and can be created in portraits. The first silhouettes may have been created of the English King William and Queen Mary during the 1700s and were called “shades.”
PROJECT:
Students first drew a landscape scene. They then decided which parts of their image would be in silhouette and what would be painted. They used a black sharpie to color in the silhouette areas as it is permanent and painted the rest in with watercolors.
