About this School Project (3rd-Fall Leaf Batik)
Students learned what a batik is and the process used to create a batik. They created a drawing of leaves. We discussed composition and talked about things like overlapping and making some of the leaves look like they were going off the edge of the paper. They were encouraged to fill up the space. Muslin was placed over top of their drawings and they traced their drawings with Elmer's glue. During the next class we began painting. We reviewed the color wheel and discussed colors that would blend well together then students painted with acrylic paint. Their paintings were then soaked in water and the glue was dissolved leaving behind the outline of the leaves.
