About this School Project (2nd Grade - Fall Trees)
This simple landscape project introduced the second grade classes to the concepts of horizon line, changing the size of objects based on their placement within a composition, and the use of various materials in a single piece of art. The students began by drawing pairs of vertical lines. I encouraged students to draw some pairs of lines close together, some far apart, and some starting a various heights off the bottom of the page. Students drew a wavy line behind the pairs of lines for the horizon line. Next, the second graders blended various shades of green oil pastels for the grass, and various shades of brown for the tree trunks. We spritzed a thin coat of diluted blue tempera paint for the fall sky. Finally, the students sponge painted the tops of the trees with yellow, orange, and red tempera paint.
