About this School Project (Jasper Johns Letters)
Students learned about artist Jasper Johns who uses repetitive numbers and letters in his paintings. We looked at many of his artworks and discussed/compared/contrasted what we saw. For our project we learned how to fold our 12 x 18 paper 4 times to get 16 sections.....this was very tricky because it got much more challenging the more folds we had! We "squished" them really hard! Then we used oil pastel to try and fill up each section with the letters of our name. We used different colors, had to press down really hard and were encouraged to mix the letters up like a puzzle. The next class, students could add more letters of different sizes and upside down, sideways and even our age! To finish, we used watercolor to paint over the letters and learned about watercolor/oil pastel resist. These turned out amazingly! Don't forget to leave a comment for your favorite artist!
