About this School Project (Chihuly Flower Sculptures)
Students heard about the life and artwork of Dale Chihuly and created a work inspired by his glass blown sculptures using transparency sheets, acrylic paint, paper, dixie cups, pipe cleaners, a button, tissue paper, and sharpie markers. We watched a clip of Chihuly creating one of his famous glass blown sculptures and viewed images of his artwork. They created a flower inspired by Chihuly. They began by tracing a flower shape onto transparency sheet, cutting it out, and painting patterns of lines along the flower shape. Each flowers was slightly melted to create a look of glass and to make the flower curl. Finally they added a stem, leaf, pollen, and a flower pot to plant their glass flower.
