About this School Project (Family Portraits)
Students listened to the story, "Louanne Pig in The Perfect Family" written by Nancy Carlson. They discussed how the families in the story were very different, but perfect in their own way. They used pencil and black markers to draw the faces and upper bodies of their family members. They changed their family into animals instead of people like the characters in the book. They colored details and clothing, glasses, jewelry, etc. on their characters. They cut out their families and used painted a pattern on their background using tempera paint and sponges, paint rollers, and tempera sticks. We discussed the use of pattern in the illustrations in the book.
