About this School Project (1 Self Portraits inspired by Basquiat)
Artists in 1st grade learned about the artist, Jean Michel Basquiat. They painted a background using only primary colors, mixing the colors to make new colors. Then they painted a simple self portrait with India ink in a bingo dauber and embellished their portrait with oil pastels. The drew details and symbols and wrote letters, words and numbers to bring meaning to their work. They learned that not all art has to be neat and tidy to make a BIG impact.
