About this School Project (1st Grade Sculptures)
Students were introduced to examples of sculptures and 3 dimensional art forms. They viewed photos of two different sculptures we have actually in Shaker Heights! What do artists do to make them interesting? How do artists get materials for sculptures? Artists and students have to make decisions about materials, how to use them and how much they cost. Students were given a challenge to only use a set number of materials. What would happen if one student took 1,000 popsicle sticks? Students brainstormed how to create an interesting work of art from their bag of materials and reflect on the challenges and successes that occur.
